| On Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026, the Embassy of Canada to Latvia and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Latvia (CanCham) jointly hosted a Farewell Reception in honour of Ambassador Brian Szwarc at the Radisson Blu Ridzene Hotel in Riga. The invitation-only event brought together CanCham members, representatives of the Canadian Embassy, government officials, and leaders from the Latvian and Canadian business communities to recognize Ambassador Szwarc's outstanding contribution during his four-year tenure in Latvia. The reception provided an opportunity to reflect on a period marked by significant geopolitical and economic change, during which Canada strengthened its defence presence in Latvia through Task Force Latvia while expanding commercial and strategic cooperation between the two countries. Ambassador Szwarc played an important role in fostering these relationships and in supporting initiatives that promoted closer engagement between government and the private sector. Guests also reflected on the remarkable growth of CanCham during Ambassador Szwarc's tenure. Since the CanCham Re-Start Reception in May 2024, the Chamber has evolved into a dynamic and self-sustaining organization representing more than sixty members. Through initiatives such as the Task Force Latvia and Defence Construction Canada procurement seminars, together with the Strategic Partnership Initiative, CanCham has significantly expanded opportunities for Canadian and Latvian businesses while strengthening cooperation with the Embassy of Canada. During the evening, Ambassador Szwarc shared reflections on his experiences in Latvia and offered his perspectives on the future of Canada–Latvia cooperation. His remarks highlighted the strong and enduring partnership between the two countries and the importance of continued collaboration in trade, investment, defence, and innovation. On behalf of CanCham, Chairman Ed Kalvins presented Ambassador Szwarc with a commemorative book as a token of appreciation for his friendship, leadership, and unwavering support of both the Canadian and Latvian communities. The inscription acknowledged his contribution to strengthening bilateral ties and to the renewal and growth of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Latvia. The reception concluded with an extended networking session, providing guests with an opportunity to thank Ambassador Szwarc personally and to celebrate the strong relationships that have been developed during his time in Latvia. CanCham extends its sincere appreciation to Ambassador Brian Szwarc for his dedication, partnership, and encouragement, and wishes him every success and happiness in his future diplomatic and professional endeavours. | |
